Hampton Lake's Halloween Season Runs on a Three-Week Clock. Here's What's Left on It.

October 22, 2026

"Halloween decorations are permitted from October 17 to November 7." That line comes from the October 12 Weekly Catch, citing Rule 8.13.3, and it sets the dates for Halloween in Hampton Lake. The Scarecrow Contest runs on exactly the same dates. Trick-or-treating, the boat parade and the buffet all fall inside the window. When this post goes live on Thursday, October 22, the clock has been running for five days and has 16 left.

The rule tells you when the season happens. The community calendar shows where it happens, and that is mostly at the small building by the dock and out on the lake itself.

The Rule That Sets the Calendar

At Hampton Lake, the decoration rule doubles as an event schedule. The same bulletin that repeated the rule also opened the Scarecrow Contest. Homemade scarecrows go in front yards from October 17 through November 7, matching Rule 8.13.3 to the day. The bulletin gives the holiday after this one a window too. Christmas decorations are permitted after Thanksgiving Day until January 15.

Here is how the Halloween window looks on the calendar:

Date What the window holds
Saturday, October 17 Decorations and scarecrows may go up; One Lure Fishing Tournament at the Tackle Box Dock
Saturday, October 24 Fall Festival, evening
Sunday, October 25 Kayaking 101, 8:30 a.m.
Monday, October 26 Pour Choices
Friday, October 30 Scary Lighted Boat Parade
Saturday, October 31 Trick-or-treating and the Halloween Spooky Buffet
Monday, November 2 Scarecrow votes due at the Tackle Box by noon
Saturday, November 7 Last day decorations are permitted
Sunday, November 8 The day after the window closes: Tunnels to Towers 5K at Rose Hill, 8:30 a.m.

The window opened on a Saturday that started at the water. The One Lure Fishing Tournament ran from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tackle Box Dock on October 17, the first day scarecrows could go up. That pairing was a good preview of the rest of the season.

Every Thread Runs Back to the Tackle Box

Look at the logistics of this season and the same building keeps coming up. Scarecrow voting cards are a downloadable PDF, and completed votes go to the Tackle Box by noon on Monday, November 2. If you want to hand out candy on Halloween, you can pick up a sign for your front door or mailbox at the Tackle Box during operating hours, or print the trick-or-treat sign at home.

The dock outside handles the lake side of the season. Besides the fishing tournament, it hosted the first Kayaking 101 session on October 11, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. A second session is set for Sunday, October 25, at 8:30 a.m., the morning after the Fall Festival.

The indoor rooms still get their share. Oktoberfest was held in the Lakeview Room on October 14, and the Barn hosted Monty Jett's Music Series with Muddy Creek on October 15 and a Shriner's Pirates Night on October 16. Those events came before the window opened. Once it did, the season moved outside.

The Weekend Before the Weekend

The Fall Festival leads off the last full week of October. The club's registration is set for the evening of Saturday, October 24, and the Fall Festival flyer has the details. Kayaking 101 follows on Sunday morning. Pour Choices fills Monday, October 26, and its flyer is also linked from the October 12 Weekly Catch.

If you live here, that run of dates covers three straight days of club events. Then comes a short quiet stretch before the two nights the whole window builds toward.

Friday Belongs to the Lake

The Scary Lighted Boat Parade is set for Friday, October 30. The club has posted a parade flyer and a separate route map. Before you pick a spot on your dock or lawn, check the map for the route and the flyer for timing and how to enter a boat.

The parade falls on a Tower Bar night. After Labor Day, the Tower Bar moved to Fridays and Saturdays only, 4 to 8:30 p.m., a schedule that runs through December. Both the parade and Halloween night land on its open evenings.

The water looks a little different this fall. Hampton Lake reported that the South Compass Lake shoreline stabilization is complete, including surface irrigation and about 1,700 additional square feet of sod. Management also said in its September 28 bulletin that it was working with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources on locations for new osprey nests and stands, with installation planned in the following weeks.

Saturday Moves to the Streets

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. The Weekly Catch says door-to-door trick-or-treating will take place in Hampton Lake that evening, and it asks everyone to stay alert to people walking in the streets. Your door sign from the Tackle Box tells trick-or-treaters you're participating.

The club runs a Halloween Spooky Buffet the same day. The buffet flyer has the details, and the menu and registration are linked from the bulletin.

A busy night at the gates is a good time to try a newer feature. Proptia, the system that replaced ADBi for gate passes, can text you when a visitor enters the gates. The option is in the app's settings. For now it works on iPhone only, with Android support coming soon. The same settings screen turns on community alerts, which the association will start using for urgent texts. If you're expecting family for the evening, a text when they arrive saves a trip to the door.

How the Window Closes

The wind-down happens in steps. Scarecrow votes are due at the Tackle Box by noon on Monday, November 2, so judging wraps up while the scarecrows are still out. Displays can stay up until Saturday, November 7, the last day of the Rule 8.13.3 window.

The next morning, the season gives way to a fundraiser. Hampton Lake's team joins the Tunnels to Towers 5K Walk/Run at Rose Hill on Sunday, November 8, at 8:30 a.m. In past years more than 150 members have taken part and raised over $10,000 for the families of first responders and military personnel who were severely injured or killed in the line of duty. You can join the team or donate through the Hampton Lake Tunnels to Towers page.

A few housekeeping items for the rest of the window:

  1. Dogs need to stay leashed in common areas, so on parade and trick-or-treat nights take them off-leash only at Dog Paddle Park.
  2. The Community Budget Review is at the Barn on Tuesday, October 20, at 6 p.m., just before this post goes live.
  3. Questions go to [email protected] or through LakeViews, and questions of wider interest may run in the Weekly Catch.
  4. The club is still taking resident photos through the Weekly Catch, and a lit boat on October 30 would be a good one to send.

The decoration dates here come from the association's own bulletin and are general information, not legal advice. If you have a question about a specific display or rule, check with the Hampton Lake Community Association directly.

Christmas decorations are permitted after Thanksgiving Day, so the next window opens just weeks after this one closes.
